Tips on Cake Recipes for Desserts

Including cake recipes in your dessert recipes is a good idea as these delightful desserts make excellent additions to everyday meals and parties. Simply tweak the cake recipes to include a filling or a frosting to make delicious variation. You can also add fresh fruits as garnish or you can make syrup from any fruit of your choice to drizzle on the cake. Whipped cream or ice cream transforms a simple cake into a decadent dessert. Frosting with icing sugar can also turn your regular cake into a visual treat for the dessert table. Here are some dessert recipes and ideas to help you add sweet notes to your menu.

Lemon Angel Food Cake

Angel food cake is easy to make and you can add different flavors to it. To make a lemon angel food cake, sift half a cup of all-purpose flour on a plate, mix it with grated zest of half a lemon and set it aside. In a bowl, whisk six egg whites with a pinch of salt and three-fourth teaspoon of cream of tartar till stiff but moist peaks form. Add a cup of superfine sugar, a little at a time, and whisk till mixed. Gently add the flour mixture and fold it in with a spatula. Pour the batter into a shallow angel food cake pan and bake in a preheated oven till the top is golden and the surface of the cake springs back when pressed.

To serve, turn the cake pan upside down on a wire rack and let it cool. As it cools, it will fall out of the pan on its own. For the frosting, mix half a cup of sour cream with half a cup of lemon curd. Spread this mixture evenly on the cake with a spatula. Crystallized or fresh flower petals are one of the best garnishes for cake recipes. To make candy petals, mix a packet of dried egg whites and brush on rose petals, pansy, viola or herb flowers and sprinkle with sugar. Let the petals dry for thirty minutes before garnishing the cake with them.

Mocha Sauce

Angel food cake is one of the best dessert recipes as it's easy to tweak. Simply complement it with a rich dessert sauce for new, tasty variation. To make mocha sauce, combine half a cup sugar with one third cup of cocoa powder, one fourth cup condensed milk and three tablespoons of corn syrup over medium heat. Add in a cup of brewed instant espresso and turn down the heat. Stir in some bitter chocolate and vanilla extract and mix till the chocolate melts. Serve with slices of angel food cake
